How do I pick the right tarp thickness?

8–10 mil for short projects.

12 mil for seasonal covering.

14 mil for regular outdoor use.

16 mil stays outside year-round.

20 mil for harsh weather.
How do I choose the right size?

Measure the item, then add extra for drop and tie-down.

Tarps cover over objects, not flat dimensions.

If between sizes, choose the larger one.
Why does it feel lighter than expected?

Tarps are flexible covers, not rigid mats.

Thickness controls durability, not stiffness.

Heavier mil ratings last longer outdoors.
Will water get underneath?

Rain won’t pass through the material.

Moisture usually comes from ground dampness or water running underneath.

Keep it elevated or angled so water drains away.
Why is the size slightly smaller?

Tarps are cut to size first, then the edges are folded and sealed for strength.

After finishing, the usable coverage measures a bit under the listed size, which is normal for tarps.
